Shabuya Shabu Shabu Restaurant @ Vivocity

Postby Wassup on 9 Dec 2008 11:42am

Went shopping at VivoCity yesterday. There are too many restaurants at Vivocity and we didn't want to eat at the basement food court or fast food chain so it took us quite a while to decide what to eat. We settled for Shabuya Shabu Shabu featuring Wagyu beef at $78++ for two persons. However, the overall experience was disappointing - probably the worst shabu shabu I'd ever tasted. It came with 2 strange tasting sauce, one tasted sour(too much vinegar?) and the other tasted like diluted satay peanut sauce.

Also, there were two type of soups - the clear soup that was totally bland and the other miso-based. The Wagyu beef was ordinary except for the very strong smell. This is the first time I tried Wagyu beef outside Japan and I don't think I'll ever do it again. Better save the money and have authentic Wagyu beef in Japan, like the one I had in Hokkaido - Shiraoi Beef.

There was only a slice of corn, one piece of tofu, one mushroom to be shared by two persons! And no knife provided to cut them.

What's missing?!

My favorite Kudzu starch noodle(clear noodle)... I felt being ripped off.

I am not the only person who did not have a great experience at this Shabuya restaurant...

"...but somehow, it didn’t impress. I don’t think I’ll be back there anytime soon."

"Food was average, service was slow...it's too big a contrast..."

And I don't think I'll ever spend money at Shabuya Vivocity.

Maybe I should learn how to make Shabu Shabu from the video below!
